7 Hottest upcoming video games

Retail sales of video games have dipped slightly in 2010, but the overall quality delivered by the interactive entertainment industry has never been higher. Major titles like "Red Dead Redemption ," "God of War III," "StarCraft II", "Mass Effect 2" and "Heavy Rain" have already established this year as a watershed for consumers who plunk down the $60 that most top games cost these days.

It will be impressive enough if publishers are able to deliver a comparable slate this fall, but perhaps the biggest gaming story over the rest of the year is likely to be the introduction of new control systems for Microsoft's Xbox 360 (called Kinect, on Nov. 4) and Sony's PlayStation 3 (called Move, on Sept. 19). Kinect and Move will be reviewed separately along with their associated initial titles, but there are plenty of interesting games on the horizon that use traditional control schemes. Here are a few highlights:

Assassin creed: Brotherhood

Last year's "Assassin's Creed II" set the player as a vigilante in Renaissance Italy out to avenge the downfall of his family at the hands of the vulpine Rodrigo Borgia (aka Pope Alexander VI). It was a bit surprising, then, that the game never let you explore the city of Rome. "Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood" is designed to make up for that by letting you scale walls, flit across rooftops and otherwise parkour your way across the vast expanses of the ancient capital, kicking bad guys along the way.

Call of Duty: Black Ops

Over the last few years Call of Duty has emerged as one of the world’s most popular and most lucrative console game franchises. That will be put to the test this fall as the series shifts from its original development studio, Infinity Ward, and into the hands of a rival development group called Treyarch. With “Black Ops,” Call of Duty is also moving away from its recent focus on modern warfare and is instead recreating cold-war covert operations.

Assassin creed: Brotherhood

Mickey Mouse is one of the few fictional characters known as widely around the world as video-game titans like Mario and Pac-Man , yet Mickey has been largely absent from popular culture for many decades now. To bring him into the interactive age, Disney acquired the talents of Warren Spector, a highly respected designer perhaps best known for creating the pioneering title "System Shock." Spector's previous work, however, has been aimed squarely at adults. Millions will be waiting to see how he handles Mickey's reinvention.

Gran Turismo

Under development for at least six years and with a production budget of at least $60 million (and probably far more), "Gran Turismo 5" aims to be the ultimate driving simulator. There are roughly 70 different tracks and some 1,000 driveable cars, but the real keyword here is realism. So if you think you’re actually going to be able to handle that 700-horsepower virtual Ferrari without a ton of practice, think again.

Halo: Reach

Halo is perhaps the definitive console game property of the past decade. Without it, Microsoft might never have been able to establish the Xbox as a legitimate rival to Sony’s PlayStation. Amid some complicated corporate machinations , “Reach” is theoretically the final Halo game that will be developed by Bungie, the studio that invented the franchise. Bungie’s previous Halo game, last year’s “ODST” (for Orbital Drop Shock Troopers), was a disappointment. So players can expect Microsoft and Bungie to outdo themselves this time, from both aspects of gameplay and promotion.

Medal of Honor

Once upon a time (around eight years ago) Medal of Honor was the top war-game franchise. Then Call of Duty came along. Now Electronic Arts is trying to reboot MOH with a new title set in Afghanistan. Courting controversy, the multiplayer mode gives users the option to play as a member of the Taliban, which strikes some as unsavory and others as merely realistic.

Iron Fist – boxing game for the iPhone

Boxing game on the iPhone shall be pretty exciting. Realtech VR has their 3D boxing game Iron Fist to be ready on Apple App store anytime to bring you the boxing excitement on your iPhone.

The Iron Fist has its scenes and characters in 3D, making it look so real and exciting to play you. You can choose from 16 characters. But the beginning stage you have only 4 characters to choose from, and the 12 will only be unlocked during the course of the game.

Since it’s a 3D game, you can choose to play from different camera angles and have automatic snapshots of the action. The game also comes with an achievement system that keeps track of your scores. The price of this game is not yet unveiled. But as an iPhone game, it shall be priced more or less same with other iPhone apps’.

Armado – 3D game for the iPhone

Armado is a 3D gaming platform that has been introduced by Tricky Software, Inc. for the Apple iPhone. Tricky Software is a new game development studio, run by some EA former employees, who have been involved in developing games including Tiger Woods series, Godfather, and Spore Origins for the iPhone/iPod touch.

Armado is the first release developed and released under their new company, Tricky Software’s banner, which they shall have invested lots of effort into it to make it to work best for you. The Armado shall give you pretty good impression according to the reviewer, which the two early good ones that can be expected from this 3D game are the pleasant initial menu screen that greets you with a nice soundtrack and professionally cut and narrated scenes and backstory while you’re stepping into the game levels.

In the game, you’re an armadillo which you need to save some eagles from those ants. You’ll have to move up and down a mountain but you’re restricted to move forwards and backwards only. To do this, you can only tilt the iPhone. Tapping on the iPhone screen lets you jump to avoid obstacles. Tap twice results in a double jump. Jumping on enemies seems to be pretty hard, even though you can prolong your stay in the air by tilting the device.

The company claims the game fully utilizes the capabilities of the iPhone and iPod Touch. But if you’ll need to spend some effort to get used to the controls then you’ll start getting some fun of it. The game is available on Apple App Store only $4.99 only.

EvilCards lives up to its title by offering a violent way to play traditional card games. While the game play is fun, there were some hurdles that nearly derailed the program along the way.

The program's interface initially impressed us with its simple navigation between games and its professional-looking graphic design. However, we were disappointed that the program offers no Help file or instructions and often requires a lot of frustrating experimentation to learn. EvilCards offers a twisted take on classic card games like Blackjack, Hearts, Poker, and a few others. Once we'd managed to decipher the controls, we had a blast playing these games. The program even offers a neat feature that let you invent your own card game from a quick, simple menu of options. While its controls and interface need work, the game play was so fun we nearly forgot our early troubles. The program got really interesting when our table included computer-generated opponents who looked like Vikings. We were surprised there was no money to wager, but soon realized the evil element of this game came when a losing hand drew a physical beating. As the game progressed, players grew more bruised and bloodied until they died, which means literally the last man standing won the hand.

EvilCards is a free game. It comes as a compressed file and installs desktop icons without permission. While its controls are a bit rocky, the unusual and amusing game play makes up for it, and we recommend this program.
